What are Skin Tags?
Skin tags are small, flesh-colored growths that may appear anywhere on the body. However, these are most common on the neck, trunk, armpits, or skin folds. While skin tags may affect anyone, they primarily are found after midlife and are noted more frequently in patients who are pregnant, overweight, or diabetic.
Skin Tag Removal
Skin tags are benign and generally no cause for concern. However, there are instances in which patients may experience discomfort or displeasure with their cosmetic appearance and wish to have them removed. Skin tags can easily be irritated by friction and can bleed or hurt. For small skin tags, cryotherapy may be used to freeze them off. For others, it may be necessary to excise them surgically after a local anesthetic. Both procedures are quick and relatively pain free. Skin tags do not typically reappear after removal.
